The 10 stands for an SAT score of 1000. You need to break a 1000 on your combined SAT Verbal plus Math score. This would enable to you to get into some colleges in the US.
The 11 means a combined SAT I verbal plus math score of 1100. Getting this score or above would enable you to get into many, many, many colleges in the United States. Probably well over 60% or more.
Getting a 12 or 1200 combined SAT I score would put you in very solid shape to probably getting in over 80% of the schools in the United States. Only the most selective schools require higher scores.
During the course of my business, I have rarely had a student who made 1200 or over not get into at least some of the schools he or she wanted to get into.
WARNING - The 10/11/12 rule is very, very simple. It is only a very rough guideline. Many more ingredients go into getting into college but this rule is a very good starting spot. I will be adding much more information on this topic in the weeks to follow.
